Understanding the Chakras
The 7-Chakra System is a system of openings or portals on the etheric body where specific non-local energies enter for the purpose of regulating the physical functions of the human body, as well as emotional and mental balances. These centers have also been identified as energy meridians, acupuncture points, and pressure points.
Each area of the body receives a particular type of energy. This means the frequency of the vibrations are specific to each Chakra. The sacred geometry below is a modern version of ancient Sanskrit drawings of those energy patterns. This more modern version is no less accurate in its interpretation. The patterns were revealed when sands were vibrated on a flat plate while sounds were being made. The patterns represent the type of energies emitted into and out of each chakra portal. The first, original glyphs and symbols were likely channeled by spiritual masters who saw the patterns in their visions. The patterns have remained relatively unchanged through the ages even with modern interpretations.
The Crown Chakra or 7th Chakra with sound clip. The symbol above shows infinite petals of energy. This is because that energy center is so vast with movement and different layers of frequencies. The conscious mind cannot estimate how many rays of energy move through this opening. Infinite is the best description. Often when angels or Gods are depicted in art and shown with halos, it is the energy of the fast spinning wheel of the crown chakra that can be seen through the ultra sensitive eye of the viewer. Angels receive great infuses of wisdom from the God Source. Therefore, they nearly always have highly developed 7th Chakras. Similar relationships occur in all the other chakra portals and their “designs” depict the extent of their energetic imprint and how many “petals” of energy are detectable. When we work with Sound for the Crown Chakra, the music note is B and we use instruments that can reach the upper octaves.
The 6th Chakra – When we need the energies of clarity, intuition and vision, we work with the vibrations of the 6th Chakra. The original design viewed energetically looked like an expansive, winged “eye.” Throughout history, this chakra has been represented as the “Third Eye” or the essence of the Pineal Gland. There are no random representations. The Pineal Gland is responsible for emitting light into the brain, and it regulates sleep and daylight functions according to the quality of the light that is allowed into the brain. To heal this Chakra, we work with the sounds of Tibetan or Crystal Singing Bowls, small chimes, and tuning forks. In sound work, this chakra resonates to the music note of A and we work with vibrations that address the cranium.
The 5th Chakra – Our ability to communicate is regulated through this chakra. When it is weak, we are unable to express ourselves clearly or authentically. When it is too strong, we cannot stop talking, gossiping, or telling untruths. In Sound Healing, we usually begin with the Throat Chakra because strengthening our singing and vocalizing abilities has tremendous benefits for all the other parts of the body. Chanting, toning, singing the OM in harmony with others, sends great energy to the lower chakras and helps regulate all body functions. The many petaled chakra art depicts a dark tunnel with rays pointing outward. This represents the voice coming from the throat with infinite microtones. When we work with the Throat Chakra, we sing to the note of G and we use the natural voice, we use vibrato, and we slide our tones.
The 4th Chakra to the left shows 16 strong petals of energy that support 6 focused rays of energy that radiate outward. Anahata has been referred to as the unstruck sound, the sound that remains inside where it remains unhurt, unbeaten. The rays vibrate balance, calmness, serenity, truth, compassion, and love. When we work with Sound for the Crown Chakra, the music note is F and it can best be played on a full sound bowl.
The 3rd Chakra – When we need the energies of courage, personal power, and leadership abilities, this chakra vibrates with pure light from the sun. The Solar Plexus is the center of the body where power vibrates upward from the 10 collection petals that transform sunlight into power that regulates our ability to stand with strength in all life situations. To enhance this Chakra, we work with gongs, Tibetan or Crystal Singing Bowls, and drums. This chakra resonates to the music note of E.
The 2nd Chakra – Our ability to co-create is regulated through this chakra. When it is weak, we are unable to form healthy relationships. This is the center of our sexuality, and a strong vibration contributes to pleasure, self-satisfaction and passion. The 6 inverted petals are portals for the inner power we protect inside this chakra. Water is the element that nourishes and floats creativity. In Sound Healing, we use lower toned instruments, tuning forks, and drums. because strengthening our singing and vocalizing abilities. When we work with the Sacral Chakra, we resonate our sounds to the note of D.
The 1st Chakra to the left shows 4 strong petals of energy. This is because that energy center is our foundation, and the earth elements support our survival and connection. The center holds the secrets of the universe and its spirit connections deep inside the earth. When we work with Sound for the Root Chakra, the music note is C and we work with deep drumbeats, low flute tones, and gongs.
Om – 8th Chakra – this is not technically a Chakra Portal, but more of a universal sound that resonates to the entire chakra system in the body. Om is considered to be the harmonic sound of creation, the perfection of the male/female balance, and the tuning that opens the 7th Chakra to higher spiritual connection. In sound work, Om resonates to the music note of high C, but is also more accurately a microtones, the sliding of tones between C and B.
How to use Sound & Chakras for Optimal Healing
When we use sound to enhance our ability to receive energy, we are strengthening the corresponding functions. When the energies moving through these portals are kept in balance with each other and within their realm of influence, good health and wellbeing are maintained automatically. When any of the energies are out of balance, it throws off the entire system. When you hear of someone balancing their chakras, they are practicing specific energy adjustments or they are using energy remedies for the purpose of maintaining or healing their physical or emotional body balance and health.
The balanced chakra system of health has been used almost exclusively by Tibetan and Hindu yogis and healers through the ages. Empowered by the resonance of billions of believers, past and present, it has also been the system of choice for many New Age believers who find it is simple to remember and integrate into a westernized non-traditional lifestyle. Many indigenous traditions use similar systems to bring energy into the body, even the process of praying. When we use tuning formulas, we are not necessarily following a specific religious or spiritual practice, but an energetic pathway that is present in all human bodies no matter what their ethnicity or spiritual beliefs might be.
Water is the carrier of all consciousness
Water plays a key role in chakra balancing. Water carries the resonance of sound, color, light, and thought to all parts of the body. Any information that enters or leaves through the chakra portals is carried by the water in our bodies, much like a river floats a boat through intricate waterways. The seven lower chakras each correspond to a music note in the chromatic scale. Yogis have been using these notes in ragas, chants, mantras, and kirtan for millennia. As sound enters the water stream of our bodies, the sounds find their way to the specific chakras where the vibrations are needed to balance that energy center. There is a two-fold, circular benefit to enhancing the chakras. As the human body is elevated to higher balance, so is the consciousness. As human consciousness evolves, so does the ability to open these higher chakra centers to higher vibrations, allowing greater wisdom and awakening. Profoundly, water is the common, accessible messenger for higher consciousness.
Sound
You can heal yourself by using vocal tones alone, as long as your tones are accurate for the body part you wish to work on. We have provided sound clips for each music note. Listen and match the sound precisely.. Each is presented in two octaves, high and low. Find your vocal range and make that sound.
In addition to physical stimulation, music notes also activate spiritual energy centers associated with chakras. Chakra centers are compared to a wheel “turning,” and this is what energy does as it enters the physical form. It turns in a vortex fashion from Source/God to where the particular frequency affects the body. If you want a mental image to go with this explanation, think of water going down a drain. It spirals in a tight vortex – except that the energy is coming into the body and not going out. The ancient chakra locations also correspond to the endrocrine system. Most conventional western medical practiioners don’t acknowledge the existence of the chakras, even though there has been thousands of years of proof of their existence. Whether you acknowledge the chakras or the western model of medicine, sound crosses the boundaries of both, with the key being to really listen to – not just hear – the sound is what creates the medicine. The process of placing your attention on the sound promotes attunement and healing, but it also promotes a greater spiritual understanding.
Chakras, Sound
and Water Together
The creation of music using particular scales (a collection of specific notes) can also heal and stimulate new growth and transformation in specific areas of consciousness. Many composers offer healing music CDs that use the sounds of water with their music. However when we following a three-fold processes of sound healing proces – we use specific music scales that correspond to the physical body; we activate the Chakra; and we honor Earth Elements –through all three the energy that is generated is powerful medicine to enhance healing both on a personal cellular level and within the cosmic influence. Dr. Masaru Emoto experimented with sounds to heal the toxins in water and his results were impressive. Others have experimented with using water as a carrier for mass consciousness. The results have been amazing. We can heal ourselves, and we can also heal the Earth by using our natural sounds along with the influences we introduce through these other elements.
The chakra system has one other important influence. Through the balanced chakras we re-learn to live in “right” action to the world. This means balanced chakras help influence our behaviors, responses, experiences, and the way we perceive ourselves in the lives we have chosen.
Each energy center enhances emotional and mental energies that contribute to our highest and greatest life experiences. The chakras when balanced in our bodies also balance our understanding of earth elements and what we can learm from them. See the chart above for the specific elements influenced by balanced chakras.
Those who live with balanced chakras have gained monumental insight into the truth of physical and non-physical realities that others can’t understand. Opening the chakras through sound will produce some surprising results. It is best to remain calm as you observe yourself changing dramatically during the healing process.
